Couple Allegedly Cheats Sydney Casino Out of $1.2 Million
A couple from Kazakhstan has been arrested after allegedly defrauding a Sydney casino of nearly $1.2 million. The woman, 36, was caught wearing a small camera hidden on her skirt, which led to an investigation into their activities. Both she and her 44-year-old husband were arrested on Thursday, and further devices were discovered during a police search.

The pair arrived in Sydney in October and immediately applied for casino memberships at the Crown Sydney in Barangaroo. Over the course of October and November, they visited the casino multiple times, reportedly using covert devices to assist them in cheating during card games. Police discovered small magnetized probes, a mobile phone fitted with an attachment for discreetly capturing images, and a custom-made mirror for the same purpose.
Police say the woman was wearing a camera disguised under a Disney logo, while the couple allegedly communicated via earpieces to receive instructions on how to place their wagers. The couple won a total of $1,179,412.50, which raised suspicions among casino staff. The couple was found with gambling props, high-end jewelry, and $2000 in cash during a search at their accommodation.
Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, head of the Organised Crime Squad, praised the cooperation between casino security and the police, which helped identify and prevent further illegal activities. “Our detectives collaborate closely with casino security to identify and disrupt unlawful behaviour,” Faux said, highlighting the importance of maintaining the integrity of gaming operations.
The couple faces charges of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception. They were refused bail and appeared in the Bail Division Local Court on Friday, November 28, 2025. The investigation is ongoing, and police have urged anyone with information about the case to come forward.
