Auckland to Get Second Costco Store in Drury

Auckland is set to gain a second Costco, with the US retail giant confirming plans for a new store in Drury, south of the city.

Developer Kiwi Property has agreed to sell 6.4 hectares of land in its upcoming Drury town centre project to Costco. The suburb, around 35km south of central Auckland, is undergoing significant development, with plans for a major new commercial and residential hub.

Costco country manager Chris Tingman said the company was pleased to expand its footprint.

“While still subject to planning and corporate approvals, our aim is to bring our high-quality, low-cost merchandise to Drury, serving members in South Auckland and the Waikato,” Tingman said.

An opening date has not yet been confirmed.

The only existing Costco in New Zealand is at Westgate in West Auckland, which opened in 2022 and quickly proved popular with shoppers.

Kiwi Property CEO Clive Mackenzie said securing Costco was a major milestone for the Drury development, which recently received fast-track consent for its first two stages.

“Costco has been a hit since opening its first store, and we’re pleased to help bring it further south,” Mackenzie said.

The deal follows Kiwi Property’s earlier sale of 1.2 hectares in the precinct to supermarket operator Foodstuffs.
