Christchurch Drive-By Shooting Leaves Woman Fighting for Life
A woman is in critical condition after being shot in Christchurch on Monday night, as police search for the person responsible who fled the scene in a vehicle.
Emergency services were called to Shortland Street in the suburb of Wainoni at about 8.45pm. The street was quickly cordoned off at both ends as armed officers and forensic teams arrived.
It is understood the woman was struck in a drive-by shooting and may not have been the intended target.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Farrant said police are now focused on identifying and locating the shooter.
“Police and ambulance were called to a Shortland St property about 8.45pm last night, and on arrival found the woman in critical condition. A scene guard has remained in place overnight, and inquiries are ongoing today to locate the person responsible, who left the scene in a vehicle. Members of the public can expect a police presence in the area to remain while these inquiries take place.”
Locals posted online describing large numbers of armed police in the neighbourhood through the night.
Hato Hone St John confirmed they transported one critically injured patient to Christchurch Hospital after being notified at 8.44pm.
Police are urging anyone with CCTV, dashcam footage, or information to come forward as the investigation continues.
