‘Grow A Garden’ Roblox Game Sprouts Film Adaptation From Story Kitchen

The global gaming sensation Grow A Garden is officially headed to Hollywood. Story Kitchen, the production company behind major video game adaptations like Tomb Raider and Life Is Strange, has teamed up with the game’s creators to develop a feature film based on the hit Roblox title.

With more than 33 billion plays and a massive global fanbase, Grow A Garden has become one of Roblox’s biggest cultural phenomena. The game lets players grow gardens, trade crops, decorate their worlds, and take part in seasonal events, fostering a spirit of creativity and collaboration that has captivated millions.

Launched in March 2025, the title skyrocketed to fame, reaching a peak of 22.3 million concurrent players in August — surpassing Fortnite’s record of 15.3 million and at one point accounting for two-thirds of all Roblox users online.

Grow a Garden is exactly the kind of imaginative, heartfelt world we love to adapt — an uplifting story-world rooted in play, creativity, and community,” said Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg.

Grow a Garden is owned by Janzen Madsen. Janzen spoke to The Oceanic Press in June of this year, stating that he thinks the game did so well as “It’s just innate to humans to farm””. He acquired the game from a teen who built the initial game in just three days before then building the game out into what it is today.

A Whimsical, Emotional Story in Bloom

Plot details are being kept secret, but insiders say the movie will invite audiences of all ages into a whimsical and emotional adventure about growth, friendship, and the magic of nurturing something from the ground up.

The film is currently in early development, with Story Kitchen collaborating closely with the game’s creative team to ensure the adaptation captures the title’s positive, community-driven spirit.

Creative Team and Production Details

The film is being produced by Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen, alongside Jeremy Bolt of JB Pictures.
John Gaudiosi and John Benyamine of Moonrock will serve as co-producers, with Elena Sandoval representing Story Kitchen. The project is being developed in partnership with Think Influence, which represents the game’s creators.

Additional casting and production announcements are expected in the coming months.

Story Kitchen’s Expanding Universe

Since its founding in 2022, Story Kitchen has rapidly become a powerhouse in video game-to-film adaptations, with projects based on Tomb Raider, Life Is Strange, Just Cause, Shinobi, and Sifu currently in development across major studios including Netflix, Amazon MGM, Universal, and Lionsgate.

With Grow A Garden, the studio looks to blend the vibrancy of online gaming culture with heartfelt cinematic storytelling — planting the seeds for what could be one of the most family-friendly gaming films yet.
