Zimbabwean Man Faces Court Over Alleged Visa Breach in Sydney

A 34-year-old Zimbabwean national is scheduled to appear before Bankstown Local Court on 13 January 2026 following charges linked to an alleged breach of Australian visa conditions in New South Wales.

The man was charged by the Australian Federal Police on 12 January 2026 after being arrested in Sydney by New South Wales Police. Authorities allege he failed to comply with a key condition of his Commonwealth visa by not keeping his electronic monitoring device charged, a requirement designed to ensure compliance with visa and bail conditions.

The charge relates to failing to maintain monitoring equipment in proper working order, an offence under section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth). The offence carries a maximum penalty of up to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to $99,000, or both.

In addition to the federal charge, New South Wales Police have also charged the man with an alleged breach of bail conditions and possession of prohibited drugs. These charges are being handled separately under state law.

The matter will now proceed through the local court system, where the alleged offences will be formally addressed.
