Candace Owens’ 2026 Auckland event cancelled

Far-right US commentator Candace Owens’ planned Auckland speaking event has been cancelled, after she was earlier denied entry into Australia over concerns she could “incite discord” in the community.

Owens lost her bid to enter Australia last year when the country’s highest court upheld the government’s decision to block her visa. The move followed backlash over her history of inflammatory statements, including downplaying the Holocaust and claiming Muslims were responsible for the origins of slavery.

The event in New Zealand had been scheduled for Trusts Arena in Auckland, but the venue confirmed it was cancelled months ago due to its controversial nature. Chief executive Marcus Reynolds said the venue had asked promoters to remove its name from all event material.

Owens was also denied an Entertainers Work Visa in New Zealand in November 2024, though Associate Immigration Minister Chris Penk later overturned that decision, citing free speech considerations. Advocacy groups, including Young Labour, had called for her to be banned from entering the country.

Promoter Rocksman told RNZ Owens still intends to visit, saying she is “very keen” to continue her tour and is expected to attempt a New Zealand appearance in mid-2026.
